Belle Isle Conservatory
These are photographs of the original Belle Isle Conservatory constructed in 1904 by the famous architect, Albert Kahn. It was made of wood and glass.

  • Belle Isle Conservatory

    This is a photo of Alice and Albert A. Engstrom relaxing in front of the Belle Isle conservatory in 1918.

  • Original Belle Isle Conservatory

    This is a color tinted photograph of the original conservatory. In 1949 the wings and dome of the conservatory were completely rebuilt of glass and aluminum. It was re-dedicated in 1955 to Anna Scripps Whitcomb. Orchids from her collection are still seen at the Children's Christian Temperance Fountain in the Tropical House and throughout the Conservatory.
